Reading Matters has a strong and well supported network of Volunteer Reading Mentors who work within schools. Volunteers come from the community and workplace and are placed in our network of partner schools. Volunteers receive in depth training and gain huge satisfaction and reward from helping to support young people.
Although Reading Matters does not directly manage volunteers in every area of the UK we are happy to support individuals and business by offering training programmes and by ‘brokering’ relationships with schools in your local area and helping to set up and support local partnerships.
This is an accredited, in depth training course that provides individuals with the practical skills to help struggling and reluctant readers within schools. Participants gain huge satisfaction from the knowledge that they are helping to support and inspire young people by improving their reading skills and self confidence.
Adult volunteers are recruited from the general public; from all walks of life, from all sections of the community and across all ages. What they all share is a love of reading and the time, patience and desire to improve the lives of young people in a fun and practical way.
